I've had a fascination with Madonna's Billboard chart stats since I was about 14 years old in 1997. Back then I would learn about Madonna's peak positions on the Hot 100 through pop music books like the ones published by Rolling Stone. Of course, back then I had no access to the internet, and I had never even seen a copy of Billboard magazine in person, so finding out all the tidbits of information was always challenging and fun. I remember being shocked to find out that Human Nature only reached #46 on the Hot 100.
In 2005 I created my first version of this site when I was working at my school's library. Luckily, they had a subscription to Billboard which allowed me access to Billboard's online archives. That, plus all the extra time I had while working in a library, prompted me to research every bit of information that I could find on Madonna's chart histories. I can't even say how many hours I spent researching week-by-week charts, one by one. All of them from the Hot 100 to Club Play to Adult Contemporary, clicking on each dated chart to find out where Madonna had landed that week...it was a lot of work! The frustrating part was when I would find gaps...missing holes because Billboard did not have every chart for some of the older 80's entries. You might notice that I've still yet to find some of the missing info, although I have had help from various readers of my site over the years who have sent me pieces of the missing puzzles, so I'd like to thank all of them.
