Here's a great back cover of Billboard magazine from December 10, 1983. In this same issue, Holiday was climbing the Hot 100 and was in the #39 spot in its seventh week on the chart. In 7 more weeks, it would peak at #16.

In case you're wondering, the person who appeared on the front cover in this issue was Barbra Streisand.

RUMOR: Madonna To Open Billboard Music Awards?

OK everyone, don't get too excited just yet, but there is a rumor making the rounds that Madonna may be opening the Billboard Music Awards later next month, right before she is scheduled to emark on her tour. This may just be wishful thinking on someone's part that escalated into an internet rumor, but wouldn't it be amazing? Apparently, she would also receive some kind of award or recognition for her 42 #1 Dance hits, which is a pretty great accomplishment. If you recall, not too long ago Guy Oseary commented on twitter that they had a certain TV performance in mind, but nothing was confirmed at the time. Hmmm! The timing seems perfect and the exposure would be great promo for Madonna, the tour and MDNA!

Once again, Madonna is featured in 'Ask Billboard' several times this week. Read the column at Billboard.com.

"Girl Gone Wild" Remixes Now On iTunes!

The Remix EP is finally available. Get yours now!

Here's the tracklist:

"Girl Gone Wild" Digital Remixes / Possible USA CD Maxi-Single?

According to Madonnatribe, not only is Interescope about to release the digital maxi single of "Girl Gone Wild" to iTunes (finally), but they are also prepping a CD Maxi-Single! As far as charts, it's way too late for something like this to help "GGW" on the Hot 100, but it will certainly help on the Singles Sales and Dance Singles Sales charts. Plus, it's a nice bonus for collectors! I have my fingers crossed.

Chart News: Week of 5/5/2012

We've got our early Club Play news for next week in today. "Girl Gone Wild" only drops 3 spots from #3 to #6, while "Give Me All Your Luvin' " makes another big drop from #29 to #45 in its 10th week, close to falling off the chart. If this becomes "GMAYL" 's final week, it will mark her shortest run since 1998's "Sky Fits Heaven", which spent only 6 weeks on the chart. All of her entries since then have spent 11 weeks or more on the Club Play chart.

Here's a look at the complete chart for this week:

Madonna On The Mainstream Top 40 Chart

Here is a quick recap of Madonna's entries on the Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart (currently called the Pop Songs chart) since its inception in 1992. This chart measures the airplay of songs on mainstream pop radio stations using the total number of detections. Her only #1 so far has been "Take A Bow"...

Official: "Girl Gone Wild" Debuts At #38 On Pop Songs / Mainstream Top 40 Chart!

From Billboard.com's chart highlights:

"As tipped in this weekend's "Ask Billboard" reader mailbag, Madonna debuts at No. 38 on Pop Songs with "Girl Gone Wild," the second single from "MDNA." As the set's first single, "Give Me All Your Luvin'," featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., reached No. 24 on the chart, Madonna has sent two singles from the same album onto the ranking for the first time since the title cut from "Music" and follow-up "Don't Tell Me" reached Nos. 2 and 4, respectively, in 2000-01."

"Girl Gone Wild" On Track To Debut On Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 Chart

According to current airplay figures, "Girl Gone Wild" is set to debut this week on Billboard's Pop Songs / Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart. If it does, Madonna will have scored two songs from the same album on the Mainstream Top 40 chart for the first time in over a decade (the last time she did this was with the MUSIC album when "Music" and "Don't Tell Me" reached #2 and #4 respectively). That's definitely good news!

Chart News: Week of 4/28/2012

Some early Club Play news for next week's charts. "Girl Gone Wild" drops from #1 to #3, which surprises me because it was the Greatest Gainer so consistently during its climb, that I was sure it would spend more than one week at # 1. Meanwhile, after inching its way down the top 10 the last few weeks, "Give Me All Your Luvin' " takes a nosedive from #10 to #29.

"Turn Up The Radio" : 3rd MDNA Single?

Madonna's manager Guy Oseary has suggested on twitter that "Turn Up The Radio" may be the next single from MDNA. How do we think this song would do on radio and on the charts? After two lukewarm singles, could radio finally re-embrace Madonna again with "Turn Up The Radio"? It certainly seemed like it was the obvious choice to be the lead single over "Give Me All Your Luvin' " back in February, but now that the first 2 singles have had such a tepid response from radio and digital consumers, and with the news of MDNA's 2nd week sales drop making those pesky headlines, it's going to take a real push to get the third single noticed. If "TUTR" is indeed the next single, it's pretty much a given that it will be a success on the dance charts, but it would be great if Madonna could muscle her way into the Hot 100 again. Stay tuned...

Billboard.com: Madonna Biggest 2nd Week Sales Drop For A #1 Album

Some Not-So-Good News For MDNA...

"This week, Madonna's "MDNA" earns the distinction of the largest second-week percentage sales drop for a No. 1-debuting album since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. The album slides from No. 1 to No. 8 on the Billboard 200 with a 86.7% sales decline."

Not the kind of news we want! MDNA sold 48,000 copies last week compared to 359,000 copies in its first week.

Billboard.com: Madonna Notches 42nd No. 1 On Dance / Club Play Songs

Billboard.com finally comments on Madonna's latest chart feat:

Madonna earns her record-extending 42nd No. 1 on Billboard's Dance/Club Play Songs chart, as "Girl Gone Wild" zips 4-1.

The song is the second topper from Madonna's 12th studio album, "MDNA," which bowed atop the Billboard 200 last week with 359,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Just three weeks ago, the set's first single, "Give Me All Your Luvin' reached the chart's summit.

The speedy return to the survey's top spot grants Madonna her quickest span of back-to-back No. 1s. She had previously linked faster consecutive No. 1s when "Vogue" ruled just seven weeks after "Keep It Together" in 1990.

Archive Updates (UPDATED)

Just added some info for Miles Away, Give It 2 Me, Celebration, Revolver and 4 Minutes on the Dance Singles Sales and Hot Singles Sales charts. I'm still missing some weekly positions but I managed to get 'Final Week On Chart'  and 'Total Weeks on Chart' for most of these which were previously missing.

Just a reminder that 'NC' = Did Not Chart That Week and '?' means that the song charted, but I am missing that weekly position. Multiple question marks (???) means that from that point forward, I don't have any more week-by-week information.

UPDATE: Hot Singles Sales and Dance Singles Sales sections for Revolver and Celebration have now been completed! :)

New Batch Of Girl Gone Wild Remixes

New mixes of "Girl Gone Wild" by Avicii, Rebirth and Dada Life have been digitally serviced to DJ's in the last few days, which will no doubt help push the track even further on the dance charts (let's get that 42nd Club Play #1!) You can listen to them HERE. Still no word on a digital EP, but Interscope should get on it soon and release these new mixes with the original mixes that surfaced last month! We probably won't get any physical singles in the USA as we didn't for "Give Me All Your Luvin' ", but overseas a 2-Track CD and limited edition 12" Picture Disc is scheduled to be released later this month. The 12" is said to be EXTREMELY limited!

Billboard: MDNA #1

MADONNA DEBUTS AT #1 ON BILLBOARD 200

Madonna scores her eighth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with the debut of her "MDNA".

Madonna remains in second place among women with the most No. 1 albums. She now needs only one more No. 1 to tie Barbra Streisand, the leader among women with nine chart-toppers.

"MDNA" sold 359,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan, and is Madonna's fifth straight studio album to debut at No. 1. It follows 2008's "Hard Candy," which moved 280,000 in its first week. "MDNA's" opener is her best sales week since 2000's "Music" shifted 420,000 when it debuted at No. 1.

"MDNA's" sales were aided by a successful album sales promotion involving Madonna's upcoming world tour. U.S. customers who bought a concert ticket had the option of also receiving the album as part of their purchase. The only sales that count towards Billboard's charts are those where the customer opted to receive "MDNA."
