Like A Virgin (1984)

FORMATS: 7" Vinyl, 12" Vinyl

HISTORY AND NOTES: Madonna ushered in her second album, Like A Virgin, by releasing the title track as the first single in the Fall of 1984. The release of this single and the album had been held off for a few months in order to allow "Lucky Star", the final single from the debut album, to run its course.

The single was released as both 7" and 12" vinyls (which had different covers). Both formats were backed with album track "Stay", while the 12" featured the Extended Dance Remix.

"Like A Virgin" was a huge success. It soared to the #1 spot on the Hot 100, spending an impressive 6 weeks at the pole position. "Like A Virgin" was so big that it also peaked at #1 on the Singles Sales, Radio Airplay, and Club Play charts for multiple weeks, and also hit the Top 10 on the R&B Singles chart, her only song ever to do so. Over the years, it has become one of Madonna's signature songs, being featured on 1990's The Immaculate Collection, and 2009's Celebration greatest hits albums.
