Everybody (1982)

FORMATS: 7" Vinyl, 12" Vinyl

HISTORY AND NOTES: Madonna's very first single was supposed to be a song called "Ain't No Big Deal", but after disco act Barracuda recorded and released it, that plan was ditched in favor of releasing "Everybody", one of the songs which had originally been on Madonna's demo tape which got her signed to Sire Records ("Ain't No Big Deal" would eventually turn up as a b-side on 1986's "True Blue" single).

"Everybody" was released in 1982 as a 12" vinyl (which interestingly did not feature a picture of Madonna herself, but instead a 'street scene' collage), and as a 7" vinyl which came housed in a generic white die cut sleeve. The 7" featured a unique, shorter edited version of the song, as well as an instrumental version, while the 12" featured the full-length version and a dub version mix.

"Everybody" became a big hit in dance clubs (peaking at #3 on the dance chart), but unfortunately it did not do very well on mainstream radio, peaking at #7 on the Hot 100 Bubbling Under chart. The track would go on to be included on Madonna's debut album, which was released the following year in 1983, and also on 1987's remix compilation You Can Dance and 2009's greatest hits package, Celebration.
