Beautiful Stranger (1999)
FORMATS: None. (Airplay-Only Single)
HISTORY AND NOTES:
"Beautiful Stranger" was a song written and recorded for the second Austin Powers film, The Spy Who Shagged Me. It was released as the soundtrack's first single in 1999.
Unfortunately, a commercial single for this song was continuously delayed in the USA until it was finally cancelled. The reason for this was probably to sustain sales of the soundtrack album.
The song was a hit for Madonna reaching #11 on the Airplay chart, but due to the fact that a commercial single was not released, "Beautiful Stranger" only managed to reach #19 on the Hot 100 (sales of a physical single would have definitely pushed it into the Top 10, possibly the Top 5). The promo-only remixes pushed the song into the #1 position on the Club Play chart, however. Interestingly, "Beautiful Stranger" also made some appearances on some Latin airplay charts. This song has been featured on 2 of Madonna's greatest hits albums: 2001's GHV2 and 2009's Celebration.
