Burning Up / Physical Attraction (1983)

FORMATS: 12" Vinyl

HISTORY AND NOTES: "Burning Up" and "Physical Attraction" were both released as a double A-side 12" single in the Spring of 1983, a few months before Madonna's full-length debut album.

The maxi single featured a 12" long version of "Burning Up" (some refer to it as a remix, and even though it is different to the more rock version that turned up on the album, it should be noted that this was the first version released). A 7" vinyl counterpart for this single was not released, although a promotional 7" was pressed which highlighted only an shortened edit of "Physical Attraction" on both sides.

The tracks followed in the dance club success of "Everybody" by peaking at an identical #3 on the Club Play chart (both titles charted as one entry), but once again failed to catch on radio airwaves. "Physical Attraction" later appeared on 1987's remix album You Can Dance, while "Burning Up" was featured on 2009's Celebration compilation.

  3. As I understand it the Physical Attraction 7" promo was released to black/urban radio stations due to demand for the song, I believe they played a trunicated version of the 12" until Sire/WB funished them with a 7" radio edit. It basically was only played on these stations.
