Human Nature (1995)

FORMATS: 7" Vinyl, 12" Vinyl, Cassette Single, Cassette Maxi-Single, CD Single, CD Maxi-Single

HISTORY AND NOTES:
"Human Nature" was the fourth and final Bedtime Stories single in 1995. It was perhaps a bit risky for Madonna to release a reactionary song like "Human Nature" after the chart disaster of "Bedtime Story". In the song, Madonna defends herself against the critical backlash that she experienced during the Erotica/Sex period from 1992-1993.

Once again, 5 physical formats were released. The standard versions featured a clean version of the title track and album cut "Sanctuary" as the B-Side. Various remixes were spread out over the maxi and promo versions. The rare "Video Version" features a unique outro in which Madonna simply states "absolutely no regrets".

"Human Nature" peaked lower on the Hot 100 than "Bedtime Story", but it was actually the bigger overall hit, spending 15 total weeks on the chart. The song was also a minor R&B hit, and a #2 club hit (where it spent 3 weeks in the runner-up position). "Human Nature" was eventually included on 2001's GHV2 compilation.
