Bedtime Story (1995)

FORMATS: 7" Vinyl, 12" Vinyl, Cassette Single, CD Single, CD Maxi-Single

HISTORY AND NOTES:
Madonna followed up one of the biggest hits of her career ("Take A Bow") by releasing "Bedtime Story" as the third single from Bedtime Stories. The song was a radical departure for Madonna, to say the least. The experimental track was co-written by Bjork.

The single was released in the then-usual 5 physical formats. The B-Side was the more easily-accessible album cut "Survival". All maxi formats included a dazzling set of remixes by Junior Vasquez and Orbital.

Releasing "Bedtime Story" as a single in the USA was a huge risk at the time. Unfortunately, it was a huge blunder for Madonna on the charts. After "Take A Bow"'s dominance on the airwaves, radio gave "Bedtime Story" the cold shoulder and the results showed. "Bedtime Story" peaked at a majorly disappointing #42 on the Hot 100, and only stayed on the chart for a total of 7 weeks, her lowest ever for a single at that point. The only chart where the song hit #1 was on the Club Play chart, where it surprisingly became one of her longest-lasting singles spending 16 weeks on the chart.

Despite its weak chart showings, Madonna chose to include this song on her 2001 hits album GHV2.
