Secret (1994)

FORMATS: 7" Vinyl, 12" Vinyl, Cassette Single, CD Single, CD Maxi-Single

HISTORY AND NOTES: "Secret" was the first single from 1994's Bedtime Stories album. The song (a bluesy, acoustic mid-tempo ballad) was different to any of Madonna's previous singles.

5 physical formats were released in the USA, all of which included various versions/remixes of the song. Interestingly, the commercial 12" did not have a regular picture sleeve (as all of Madonna's previous commercial 12"). Instead, it was released in a promo-style basic white die cut sleeve with Madonna's name and the song title on the front, and information text printed on the back.

"Secret" did pretty well on the charts, particularly on Adult Contemporary radio where it continues to have a recurrent presence even today. It was another Top 5 hit on the Hot 100 for Madonna, staying in the Top 10 for an impressive 11 weeks (at that point it was her longest-running Top 10 hit of the 90's, beating out others such as "Vogue" and "Justify My Love"), and was another Club Play #1 thanks mostly to the remixes by Junior Vasquez. "Secret" has appeared on two of Madonna's hits albums: 2001's GHV2 and 2009's Celebration.

CERTIFICATION: Gold
