Nothing Really Matters (1999)
FORMATS: 7" Vinyl, Double 12" Vinyl, Cassette Single, CD Single, CD Maxi-Single
HISTORY AND NOTES:
"Nothing Really Matters: was the fourth and final single release in the USA from 1998's Ray of Light album.
The USA was treated to 5 commercial releases. The standard B-side was the album cut "To Have And Not To Hold", while the maxi formats were packed with remixes, most of them by Club 69.
Peaking at a dismal #93, "Nothing Really Matters" was up until that point the biggest blemish on Madonna's Hot 100 history. A number of reasons are to blame, mostly bad promotion and marketing. The commercial single kept being delayed until it was finally released after airplay had already peaked. The new Hot 100 was also a factor. With so many non-commercial songs now being able to chart, the chances for "Nothing Really Matters" to climb higher was tougher than it was for any of her other singles before it. Had the chart rules not changed and had the commercial single been released in a more timely manner to coincide with with what little airplay the song got, "Nothing Really Matters" would have charted higher on the Hot 100 (possibly in the 50's or 60's). The song was a big hit in the clubs though, spending 2 weeks at #1 on the Club Play chart. "Nothing Really Matters" has never been featured on any of Madonna's hits collections.

It was estimated that had NRM been released around the week airplay peaked, it would have charted at around No. 60.
