The Power Of Good-bye (1998)

FORMATS: 7" Vinyl, Cassette Single, CD Single

HISTORY AND NOTES:
"The Power of Good-bye" was the third domestic single released from 1998's Ray Of Light album ("Drowned World/Substitute For Love" was released as the third single internationally).

3 physical formats were released in the USA, all featuring the album versions of both the "The Power of Good-bye" and "Mer Girl". Though remixes of this song were commissioned, they were only released promotionally in the USA. This was probably due to the fact that they were among Madonna's most experimental remixes ever at the time (especially the ones by Luke Slater).

Chart-wise, "The Power of Good-bye" was the victim of a cruel twist of fate on the Hot 100. The week after the climbed to #11, Billboard introduced their 'new' Hot 100 where it would now allow non-commercially released songs to chart. This was done in large part because the U.S. singles market was starting to die down by the mid 90's. Unfortunately for "The Power of Good-bye", the result was a big drop to #30 the week the new chart was introduced. Could it have otherwise edged out a week in the Top 10? I guess we'll never know. Elsewhere, the song was a moderate hit, except on the dance charts where the remixes never made an appearance.
