Madonna's Top Ten Billboard Headlines: 2012 Edition

Happy Holidays everyone! 2012 was a pretty successful year for Madonna on Billboard's charts and headlines. Now that the year is coming to a close, I've compiled what I think are Madonna's Top Ten Billboard-related moments from 2012. So take a quick stroll down memory lane and see if you agree :)

#10 "4 MINUTES" PASSES 3 MILLION
DOWNLOADS IN SALES
Four years after its release, "4 Minutes" surpassed 3 Million digital downloads in sales, further establishing itself as one of Madonna's all-time biggest-selling hit singles.

#9 MADONNA PLACES 2 SINGLES FROM ONE ALBUM
ON THE MAINSTREAM TOP 40 CHART  FOR
THE FIRST TIME SINCE 'MUSIC'
The last time Madonna placed at least 2 singles from one album on the Mainstream Top 40 chart was with the MUSIC album, when "Music", "Don't Tell Me", and "What It Feels Like For A Girl" all made an appearance. This year, "Give Me All Your Luvin'" and "Girl Gone Wild" both charted, giving Madonna a pair of Top 40 radio hits from MDNA!

#8 "GIVE ME ALL YOUR LUVIN'" SINGLE
IS CERTIFIED GOLD
On June 29th, 2012, "Give Me All Your Luvin' " was certified Gold by the RIAA for sales of 500,000 downloads, becoming Madonna's 27th Gold Single! This was Madonna's first certified single since "4 Minutes" was certified Double Platinum back in 2008.

#7 MADONNA DOMINATES BILLBOARD.COM'S
2012 READER'S POLL
The public has spoken! Madonna ruled Billboard.com's 2012 Reader's poll, taking the #1 spot in 5 categories: 2012 MVP, Favorite Billboard 200 #1 Album, Best Tour, Best TV Performance and Most Memorable Feud. You can't argue with popularity!

#6 'MDNA' ALBUM IS CERTIFIED GOLD
Madonna earned another certification this year when MDNA was certified Gold by the RIAA on October 9th, 2012. This marked Madonna's 20th overall Gold album!

#5 "GIVE ME ALL YOUR LUVIN'" BECOMES MADONNA'S
RECORD-EXTENDING 38TH TOP TEN HOT 100 HIT
Madonna extended her lead among all artists when she scored her 38th Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hit  this year with "Give Me All Your Luvin'". The Beatles still follow in second place with 34 Top 10's. This was her first Top 10 hit since "4 Minutes" reached #3 back in 2008.

#4 'MDNA' DEBUTS AT #1 ON THE BILLBOARD 200
Madonna earned her 5th consecutive #1 studio album (and her 8th overall #1 album) when MDNA debuted at #1 the week of April 14th with nearly 360,000 copies in sales! Madonna remains in second place for females with the most #1 albums (Barbra Streisand is first).

 #3 MADONNA SCORES HER 41ST, 42ND,
AND 43RD #1 CLUB PLAY HITS
Madonna continued dominating the Club Play chart in 2012 as she broke her own record for most #1 hits this year...3 TIMES! "Give Me All Your Luvin'", "Girl Gone Wild", and "Turn Up The Radio" extended Madonna's #1's tally as they became her 41st, 42nd and 43rd #1's respectively.

#2 THE MDNA TOUR IS BILLBOARD'S #1 TOUR OF 2012
Billboard boxscore figures for Madonna's MDNA tour showed nothing but sell-outs and lots and lots of cash! The MDNA tour was the #1 tour of the year according to Billboard, and the tour wasn't even over yet!

#1 MADONNA CELEBRATES 30TH ANNIVERSARY
ON THE BILLBOARD CHARTS
"Everybody" was Madonna's first charting title on any Billboard tally when it debuted on the Club Play chart back in 1982. 30 years into her career, when so many of the artists who also charted back then have faded into obscurity, Madonna is still charting in 2012 alongside the newer artists of today. She is still scoring #1 albums, #1 dance hits, and #1 tours. 2012 was a testament to Madonna's longevity and significance as the most successful female pop artist of our time, and the 30th anniversary of her first Billboard chart appearance is a special occasion and a reminder of how far she's come.

Congrats, Madonna!
