Why I Stopped Updating This Site

Well, hello there! It's been quite a while. A few years, in fact! It's always been in the back of my mind that I abandoned this site without an explanation, so I thought I'd come by really quick and explain.

It's really quite simple: The Billboard charts don't matter anymore. At least not to me. They have changed their methodology so many times throughout the last few years that they really became laughable. The final straw for me realizing this was when they deprived Rebel Heart of the #1 spot on the Top 200 due to streaming. I understand that the way the public consumes music has changed a LOT in the last few years. Music just doesn't sell anymore. However, the week's best-selling album is still the WEEK'S BEST-SELLING ALBUM and should have still been proclaimed the #1 album of the week, whether it sold 100 copies or 1 million. To me, the Billboard charts are irrelevant. They fascinated me so when I was younger because I thought they mattered. Maybe at the time they did. But they don't hold the key to Madonna's success. I started this site in 2005 and I initially had a lot of fun doing it, but when it stopped being fun, I knew I had to stop.

* Last week was reported that The Immaculate Collection charted at #128 on the Top Album Sales chart, but that chart officially only has 100 positions. Billboard sometimes releases additional chart positions that are not part of the official chart for industry reference. As it stands though, The Immaculate Collection's official re-entry was not until this week. The really confusing part though is that Billboard is even listing this as a re-entry because I don't even think The Immaculate Collection has ever appeared on this chart (it's a newer chart that was introduced in the last few years if I remember correctly). Billboard even claims that this is TIC's 118th week on this chart! Also, I was completely unaware that TIC has previously charted on Digital Albums back in 2005. Thanks to Maurice G. for uncovering this info, it has now been added to TIC's page!

Madonna's Rebel Heart Tour: $46 Million Grossed (So Far)

The diva's tour has played to more than 300,000 fans… and counting.

Madonna heads up Billboard’s weekly ranking of concert touring artists, landing at No. 1 on the Hot Tours recap (see list, below) based on $25.4 million in sales reported from her Rebel Heart world tour. This tally includes the final 12 stops on the first leg of the tour that played 20 cities in North America during September and October.

Since the tour launched on Sept. 9, Madonna has performed for more than 300,000 fans at 24 shows, generating box office sales totaling $46 million. The trek through U.S. and Canadian markets wrapped on Oct. 29 in San Diego, but the tour began its second leg just six days later. A seven-week jaunt through 11 European countries began on Nov. 4 in Köln, Germany and will continue until Dec. 20, wrapping for the year in Glasgow, Scotland.

Top box-office stats from the tour so far include a $5.2 million gross from two shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sept. 16-17, the highest-grossing engagement among all of the venues on the schedule. The Garden’s sold ticket count of 28,371 is also the highest attendance recorded. Among the arenas that hosted the tour for just one performance, the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas produced the top sales total with $3.5 million on Oct. 24. Brooklyn’s Barclays Center logged the largest crowd among the single-show dates with 14,258 present on Sept. 19.
