Chart News: Week of 6/9/2012

As Madonna launches her highly-anticipated MDNA tour in Israel today, stateside it's a pretty bleak week for Madonna on the charts. "Girl Gone Wild" falls off the Dance / Club Play chart after an 11-week run, so as of now, there is no singles action going on whatsoever. As for MDNA, it keeps falling down the album charts. Now would be a good time to send "Turn Up The Radio" to clubs since Madonna is reportedly filming a video for the song in less than two weeks.

HOT DANCE / CLUB PLAY: OFF (From #41)

BILLBOARD 200: #105 (Down from #81)
DANCE / ELECTRONIC ALBUMS: #5 (Holds at #5)
TOP CURRENT ALBUMS: #94 (Down from #76)

Flashback: "U.S. Radio Hangs Up On Madonna" (Article, Billboard Issue Date: July 29, 2006)

Madonna is in the midst of a sold-out North American trek that may end up being the top-grossing tour ever by a female artist. But this on-the-road success is not carrying over to American radio airwaves. In the United States, the three singles from Madonna's latest Warner Bros. album, "Confessions on a Dance Floor," have not been embraced by mainstream top 40 radio.

"Don't Cry For Me Argentina" On The Dance / Maxi Singles Sales Chart

Another mystery solved, this one involving "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" 's run on the Maxi Singles Sales chart. Billboard.biz incorrectly lists it as having spent 12 weeks on the chart, because when you look at Billboard's actual magazine issues, we see that it actually spent 17 weeks total on the tally.

22-1-2-2-3-5-6-9-14-16-21-23-43-37-45-49-49-// (17 weeks total)
Final Week on Chart: June 14, 1997

This info has now been added to the Don't Cry For Me Argentina page.

A chart researcher's job is never done :)

"Like A Virgin" On The Club Play Chart

A sort of mini mystery for the Madonna Billboard Archives was solved today when I found the missing 13th week in "Like A Virgin" 's chart run on the Club Play chart for the week of February 16, 1985: #73. So, finally, here is the complete week-by-week run:

26-9-2-1-1-1-1-2-7-11-32-43-73-// (13 Weeks total)

This info has also been added to the Like A Virgin page.

Billboard Music Awards

So, as you all know, the Billboard Music Awards performance rumor turned out to be just that: A rumor. I don't think a lot of people really expected it to be true but it would have been amazing. Too good to be true! Speaking of performances though, the MDNA tour kicks off in just ten days. Are you excited?! :)
