Ray Of Light (1998)

FORMATS: 7" Vinyl, Double 12" Vinyl, Cassette Single, CD Single, CD Maxi-Single, VHS Video Single

HISTORY AND NOTES:
"Ray of Light" was the title track and second single from 1998's Ray of Light album.

The commercial singles featured a non-album track titled "Has To Be". Many remixes of "Ray of Light" were also available across the maxi and promo formats, while the critically-acclaimed accompanying music video was also released as a limited edition VHS single, Madonna's first since 1990's "Justify My Love".

"Ray of Light" was Madonna's first single to debut at its peak position on the Hot 100, where it bowed at #5. That success should mostly be credited to sales, since the song only peaked at #26 on the Airplay chart. Overall, "Ray of Light" did pretty well, and even spent 4 weeks at #1 on the Club Play chart (pretty impressive since that chart is very fast-moving).  "Ray of Light" was later featured on 2001's GHV2 and 2009's Celebration hits compilations.

CERTIFICATION: Gold

Note: Billboard states that “Ray of Light” spent 72 weeks total on the maxi-singles sales chart, but I only found 70. I’m not sure where the other 2 weeks would fall in the week-by-week rundown. It might be another re-entry after the final week I have posted.
